Dresden Trip (3-5 June 2006) - Nürnberg Revisited and Leipzig
I don't know who arranged it, but there's another long weekend. Supposed to go to Black Forest, but we had to change our plans because Ms Koo didn't want to go, so it was off to Dresden, but not before a few stopovers.
Well, I had to go back to Nürnberg because I had to get the FIFA World Cup postcards, and it made a very good stopover for lunch with the famous Nürnberger sausages. It was much more crowded and lively compared to the last time I've been there.

The Hauptbahnhof

The Frauenkirche

The Hauptmarkt got really crowded

Preparation for the World Cup: a Deutsche Bahn service counter in the shape of a football!

Yea, a full convenience store in a vending machine

Then it was on to another 3-hour train ride on the ICE to Leipzig, a city in Saxony. Formerly under East Germany, Leipzig was first documented in 1015, turning into a center for German law and the publishing industry following the establishment of a university in 1409. Leipzig is also a host city for the 2006 FIFA World Cup, which is why I had to stop over to get the post cards.

If you haven't seen it before, here's a shot of the Deutsche Bahn InterCity Express (ICE), Germany's equivalent of the Japanese Shinkansen

The side of the ICE, proudly boasting DB's involvement with the World Cup

Yup, the clock's ticking...

Caught a glimpse of the Thomaskirche...

A main street...

And the World Cup Welcome banner
Yeah, it isn't much, but what can I do in an hour? So it was off to Dresden!
