Road Trip (29 April - 1 May 2006) Day 2&3 - Speyer
So after spending enough time at the Hockenheim Ring, we went on to Speyer, a city located on the River Rhine in Rhineland-Palatinate. It's a small city founded since 500BC with 50,000 inhabitants, but what it lacks in people, it makes up for in size...

As you can see from the Kaiserdom (translation: Emperor's Dome, English: Speyer Cathedral)
Built in 1030-1061, this massive building is where 8 German emperors are interred and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1981. It is even bigger than St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague, but alot less crowded.

Still not convinced of the size?

Like I said, it's huge...

From any angle

The interior of the cathedral

Huge walls...

Huge frescos... what more can you ask for?

The Maypole in Speyer

The Rathaus
So that's it for the city. Nothing really much to see, but there's another attraction nearby that drew our attention even more.
