Prague (14-17 April 2006) - Day 1: Kutná Hora
Kutná Hora is a town located some 60km from Prague, and is about 2 hours by bus. I took a bus from the Florenc Bus Station near my hostel. 70CZK for a cramped, stuffy 2-hour ride, not very tempting, yah? Furthermore, I went almost immediately after I got to Prague, so I wasn't in the best spirits to explore on foot.
Anyway, Kutná Hora is also a UNESCO World Heritage site, inscribed in December 1995, with 2 famous buildings, also UNESCO sites, the Cathedral of St. Barbara and the Monastic Church of the Assumption of Our Lady in Sedlec. There is also an Ossuary there, with decorations made from the bones of 40,000 people.
The worst part was that we missed the last bus back to Prague, due to the service staff giving us the wrong timing, so we ended up having to take the train back, which was faster, cheaper and less cramped, although we still reached Prague only at 8pm. Was quite a wet day with a vague map only written in Czech, so I didn't really appreciate Kutná Hora that much. However, I thought the St. Barbara's Cathedral was worth the trip.

Monastic Church of the Assumption of Our Lady in Sedlec. It's so cramped, this is the only decent shot I could get...

Until I crossed the road

The interior is under renovation

And the UNESCO plaque

Inside the Ossuary, or the Bone Church

Yes, all made of bones. Not frightening though

Bone chandelier, this is impressive

Some South Americans we were talking to (that's Hafidz, the 3rd Singaporean, on the extreme right)

View of the roof of St. Barbara's Cathedral

Close-up of the Cathedral

The front of the Cathedral, with Hafidz

Of course, the UNESCO plaque for St. Barbara's Cathedral

View from the ledge
