Switzerland Trip – Part 2: The Glacier Express (19 July 2006)
Chur is one of the stops along the famous Glacier Express which runs from St. Moritz or Davos to Zermatt. Easily one of the most famous trains in the world, the Glacier Express brings one on a trip high up into the mountains and along beautiful mountain passes, offering the best of Swiss scenery. Service on the train was deluxe (1 of the 2 train lines that have a surcharge on the Swiss rail), with helpful service personnel and even lunch at your seat. I opted out of lunch though (CHF38, not very affordable) because I thought orders had to be made before travel (which I didn’t) and I already bought 2 big spinach quiches from the Migros (a budget supermarket, like Aldi or NTUC), some apples and a box of Swiss chocolate from Frey’s.
I took the train from Chur all the way to Zermatt, having to wait quite a while at Disentis for a change of the train engines, from the conventional one to a cogwheel engine, one of the many I was going to take.
So sit back and enjoy the pictures.

In and around Chur station

It's coming!!!

The train

You can see the panorama cabin

Everything is labelled

This one is the Oberalp Pass, the highest point of the journey

Finally, Zermat!

And a final picture
